Today Mansfield Ohio has effectively repealed a long standing ban on pit bull type dogs within city limits. The city had previously lifted their ban temporarily for discussion after the Ohio Fifth District of Appeals ruled a breed specific ban in Reynoldsburg Ohio was unconstitutional. After the wait until a date was set for a council meeting to discuss what to do further, a decision was made today.
Mansfield has adopted breed neutral vicious dog law instead of targeting specific breeds. It makes the current law the strongest and most encompassing in the state.
Included in the legislation is a pre-bite law that covers dogs that may have the tenacity to bite, in the hopes it stops injuries before they happen. Dogs can be deemed vicious without biting anyone, as long as someone reports the dangerous dog and can provide proof of vicious tendencies.
